zipsplit will even try to organise the contents so that each resulting archive is as close as possible to the maximum size. bit 2: Space fill record to maximum record length (Enscribe).

would produce myfile1.zip, myfile2.zip etc., all independent of each other, and none larger than 250MB (in powers of ten). Note: Command line processing in zip has been changed to. Fedora 29 included zip and unzip, but none of the other utilities and that was also the case for CentOS. Something like: zip -9 myfile.zip zipsplit -n 250000000 myfile.zip. All of the utilities were present in Ubuntu 19.04, 18.10, and 18.04. Thus each part can be individually unzipped. And note that individual contained files will not be split. We checked some Linux distributions to see whether they included these utilities in the standard installation. zipsplit bigfile.zip -n 20000000 to split bigfile.zip into parts of max 20MB. But there’s a whole family of related utilities such as zipcloak, zipdetails, zipsplit, and zipinfo. On Unix-like operating systems, the zipsplit command splits a single zip archive. You may already know that Linux and Unix-like operating systems such as macOS have tools to allow you to create ZIP files and extract files from them, called zip and unzip. tar.gz File on Linux zip, unzip, and Other Utilities As 64k is the minimum split size, numbers without multipliers default to megabytes. Leave room for 'room' bytes on the first disk (default 0). Make zip files no larger than 'size' (default 36000). The multiplier can currently be one of k (kilobytes), m (megabytes), g (gigabytes), or t (terabytes). Make index (zipsplit.idx) and count its size against first zip file. And, if you want to archive some files and send them to a Windows user, the ZIP format will be the easiest, most compatible solution for everyone. Split size is a number optionally followed by a multiplier. tar.gz and tar.bz2 files are common on Linux, Windows users will probably send you an archive in ZIP format. Thanks to the dominance of the ZIP format in the Windows realm, ZIP files are probably the most common form of compressed archive in the world.
